[3.9] Restroom at CGV Yong-san Branch in Korea

I visited CGV Yong-san in Korea.

CGV Yongsan seems to have successfully incorporated the movie theme into its overall interior design. There are many promotional displays and photo spots for newly released films, making it a space with attractions beyond just movies. Recently, they have set up camping tables and played teaser videos of upcoming films on a large screen in the tent-like area. It gave a warm feeling and was enjoyable. However, I feel a bit awkward now because I didn't take any pictures of those fantastic sets. I got too excited and only took pictures of the restroom!!

Let's talk about the restroom at CGV Yongsan.

Atmosphere: The cinematic mood from outside the restroom continues inside, which was nice. The wooden accents on the door of the cubicles and mirror frames gave a classic feel. However, I felt the floor was a bit off. The design was somewhat ambiguous and the color itself felt dirty, like actual stains, instead of complementing the design. Accessibility: Finding the restroom was a bit challenging starting from a distance. When following the signage, there was sometimes another sign in a slightly different location than expected. However, once I reached near the restroom, it was clearly and prominently indicated. Good.

Size: Movie theaters have a unique characteristic where a large number of people suddenly rush out after enduring their bladder for about two hours. If you judge based on the facility's size or the constant foot traffic, long lines may form in front of the restroom. Regarding the restroom I observed, a total of 15 people can use it simultaneously (5 sinks, 5 toilets, 5 urinals). I noticed three visible restrooms, and although the sizes may vary slightly, a rough calculation suggests that it can accommodate approximately 45-50 people at the same time. It shows a good understanding of restroom capacity in a movie theater. Cleanliness: Due to the nature of crowded movie theaters where a large number of people enter and leave at once, if the restrooms are not frequently maintained, it becomes noticeable. Therefore, I rarely find restrooms with satisfactory cleanliness. In this case, there were quite a few areas on the floor where water had accumulated, and when I opened both the first and second cubicles for the toilet shot, there were too many wet tissues scattered around, so I couldn't take pictures. The included toilet image was taken in one of the relatively clean stalls. However, there was still moisture on the floor. It emphasized how important floor maintenance is for a clean image. Convenience: There is a separate sink specifically designed for children, including an alligator-shaped faucet. It's delicate and thoughtful. The toilet door lock was semi-automatic and rotated, which was more intuitive and comfortable. It gave a cheerful and pleasant feeling. Hand sanitizers were provided separately, not built-in (marked as not for use), and it seemed to be a contracted product based on the promotional texts on the dispensers. It's cost-effective and clever. Oh, but there's one thing. There are no hand towels. That makes my evaluation a bit off. Bonus Point: At any time, when feeling uncomfortable, you can request assistance or suggest improvements by pressing a button to call a staff member. This bold benefit seems possible for a highly customer-oriented and operationally efficient large corporation, and it seems to effectively leverage the strengths of a large corporation. I commend that. However, they did not choose to extend the cleanliness check intervals relying solely on this button. Most customers tend to hold onto their discomfort rather than pressing that heavy button and disappearing. < SUMMARY > Design and scale that understand movie theaters Disappointing cleanliness Atmosphere: 4 Accessibility: 4 Size: 4.5 Cleanliness: 3 Convenience: 3.5 Bonus Point: +0.1 Overall Score: 3.9 Rating CGV Yongsan Branch 55, Hangang-daero 23-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, Hyundai I'Park Mall 6th floor
